DAY 1 – D Day in Normandy Tour, Overnight in Bayeux

Today your D-Day in Normandy private tour will begin with a visit to Pointe du Hoc, one of the strategic German fortifications along the Normandy coast, where you will see a command post (now open). The task of taking it fell to Second Batallion of Rangers commanded by General J.E. Rudder. On June 6, 1944, they managed to scale the summit in just a few minutes, despite the slippery surface, ropes made heavy by seawater and enemy fire. The ferocious fighting, which followed on the lunar landscape potted with deep craters was more deadly than the ascent itself.

Your private tour of Normandy will continue to Omaha Beach, where so many young Americans lost their lives. You will spend some time here and have your lunch break by or near Omaha Beach.  After lunch you will proceed to the American cemetery and the Visitor Center in Colleville-sur-Mer, a short drive away.  You will have an extended visit here to see the graves and the visitor center, which features stories, photos, films, interactive displays and artifacts from D-Day.

NOTE:  If you would like to visit Arromanches, you will skip the Visitor Center at Omaha Beach. In Arromanches, you will stop at the top, where you will see the artificial port on the sea and if interested, see a panoramic film about the Allied Forces’ first hours on D Day. There is a museum by the water in the village of Arromanches on the artificial harbor.

DAY 2 – Leisure Time in Bayeux, Tour of Mont St. Michel, Private Transfer back to Paris or to train station

Today you will spend some time exploring Bayeux before you depart for Mont St. Michel late morning. Bayeux is home to one of the oldest tapestries in the world. The 230-foot-long medieval cloth explains through its embroidered Latin inscription and pictures the events surrounding the 1066 Norman invasion of England, which began here.

Finally you will have a tour of Mont St. Michel, whose namesake bay boasts one of the world’s highest tidal ranges, is a truly memorable sight. Your private tour of Mont St. Michel begins at the 8th century Abbey, a major cultural and pilgrimage center during the Middle Ages. You will visit the Romanesque Church, the monk’s cloisters and refectory, the Knights Room, the Guest Room, the Undercroft, and the Refectory. The tour also includes several chapels: St. Stephen, St. Martin, Our Lady Underground, St. Mary Magdalene, and the 11th century Crypt of the 30 Candles. After your tour of Mont St. Michel, you will return back to Paris.
